David Docherty
Congratulations to David Docherty, MPH student, who received a $4,000 scholarship from the . This scholarship is awarded to a current Environmental Health Practitioner enrolled in a Graduate Program with an intention to continue a career in Environmental Health. The award was presented in July 2024 at NEHA's National Education Conference in Pittsburgh, PA. In addition to his graduate studies in аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊͶע's MPH program, David works full time as a Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist in the Burlington County Health Department and serves his community as an Emergency Medical Technician with the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps. David is an asset to our MPH program and has a bright future ahead of him in the field of public health!
Emmanuella Hammond
Congratulations to Emmanuella Hammond, MPH student, for serving as a delegate in (UN) team. Months of preparation, including classroom instruction with Drs. Tina Zappile and Michael Hayse, culminated in a trip to Frankfurt and Erfurt Germany in November 2023. Emmanuella represented the nation of Ghana at the conference, which focused on climate change. The goals were to produce solutions to combat climate change that would also have a positive effect on individuals and communities, and for their efforts the Ghana delegation took home the Overall Delegation Honorable Mention award. Model UN compliments Emmanuella’s public health education with the consideration of complex issues, in-depth exploration of global policies, and the emphasis on problem solving, intercultural competencies, and communication skills. Emmanuella is grateful for the opportunity apply her discipline-specific knowledge while working alongside passionate students and faculty. This life-changing experience was made possible thanks to generous support from The Sara & Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center and аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊͶע’s Office of the President.
Kathleen McLaney and Joanna Pitera
Congratulations to Kathleen McLaney and Joanna Pitera, both MSOT students, for presenting a research poster presentation at AOTA INSPIRE 2023, the national conference of the American Occupational Therapy Association in April 2023. The poster, The Effects of Get FIT Seniors: An Interdisciplinary Nutrition & Exercise Program for Community-Dwelling Adults, resulted from their work as graduate assistants with аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊͶע’s Get FIT program. The poster was co-authored by Dr. Mary Kientz (MSOT), Dr. M. Alysia Mastrangelo (DPT), & Dr. Joan Perks (nursing). The students’ travel expenses to the conference in Kansas City, MO was supported through Graduate Student Travel Funds.
Genesaret Mora
Congratulations to Genesaret Mora, MS, CF-SLP, on being selected as one of two recipients nationally of the Hispanic Caucus Student Scholarship of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association! She graduated from аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊͶע’s Master of Science in Communication Disorders (MSCD) program in May 2023. Genesaret was a student in the MSCD- Hispanic Emphasis Specialization (HES) program. The purpose of HES is to enhance the preparation of future bilingual speech-language pathologists with a special interest in working with Spanish-English bilingual individuals within the scope of practice of speech-language pathology. Currently, she is completing her clinical fellowship experience as a bilingual (English/Spanish) speech-language pathologist at elementary and preschools in North Bergen School District in New Jersey.
