Participants in these workshops will also have access to the lending library at the SRI&ETTC as well as access to our online resources. Workshops will be repeated throughout the school year and will also be available online.

 Important Information!

  • Workshops offered through this program are available at NO COST.
  • Pre-registration is required.
  • When teachers attend programming during the school day, schools will be reimbursed for the cost of substitutes.
  • When teachers attend after-school, in the evening, or on Saturday, they will receive a stipend from the CS Coastal Hub.

Workshops and Events by Month:

In this engaging and interactive session students will dive into the exciting world of Python programming and discover the fundamental concepts necessary to get started with coding. Participants will be introduced to the versatile and beginner friendly Python programming language.

Participants will learn about Python syntax, data types, variables, and basic control structures empowering them to write their first lines of code! Through hands-on activities and guided exercises students will gain practical experience in solving problems and implementing algorithms using Python. By the end of the workshop, participants will be ready to write Python code and embark on their programming journey. You will be equipped with the tools to explore more advanced concepts and tackle real world programming challenges. This session is designed for people with no programming experience. Join this workshop and we will unlock the world of Python programming together.

Scratch is a free, web-based coding application developed at MIT that can be used for teaching all levels of coding. It is particularly useful as an introductory application. Scratch uses drag-and-drop blocks instead of type-written code to teach the concepts, logic, creativity and problem-solving of coding without being bogged down with tedious syntax. Its simplicity makes it easy for you, as a facilitator, to include coding into your curriculum. This workshop will provide the strategies you'll need to get started and to get your students coding. No prior knowledge of coding is necessary to participate.

Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the region, become part of a PLC with coaching and support, hands on experience with grant supported resources, access to the lending library and more!

The CORE2 has a deeper focus on physical computing where we will explore sphero bolts, micro:bits, hummingbird kits, air:bits, MakeBots, and Raspberry Pi kits. All items are available through the lending library once you have completed the workshop. Join us to learn more about how you can integrate computer science in your classroom!

CS Coastal Hub Elective: K-12 Sphero

Our workshop is specifically designed for educators of all levels, focusing on the Sphero Indi and Sphero Bolt. Through this workshop, you will gain the knowledge and skills to inspire your students through imaginative and play-based learning. By utilizing these robots, you will empower your students to develop computational thinking skills, while also learning the fundamentals of coding and problem-solving. The Sphero Indi is an excellent tool for early learning in literacy and language development. It is an entry-level learning robot that is driven by color, making it approachable for students of all levels. During the workshop, participants will progress to block-based programming using the Sphero edu Jr. app, allowing them to unlock even more potential from these amazing robots. Furthermore, we will explore the capabilities of the Sphero Bolt. This includes drawing with the sensor-based robot, collecting and analyzing data, as well as engaging in block-based and Javascript text programming. By the end of the workshop, we will provide suggestions for classroom applications that cater to all grade levels, experience levels, and content areas.

CS Coastal Hub Elective:Ozobots in the K-8 Classroom

Ozobots are miniature robots that can follow lines and respond to colors, making them ideal tools for introducing programming concepts to students of all ages.

During this workshop, participants will: Gain a solid understanding of coding fundamentals, discover the Ozoblockly programming environment, engage in hands-on activities, and foster creativity and critical thinking. We will cover basic programming concepts such as commands, loops, conditionals, and variables. You'll leave the workshop with practical ideas and resources to implement immediately in your classrooms.

No prior experience with coding or robotics is necessary to participate in this workshop. We welcome educators from all backgrounds, whether you are a beginner or have previous experience with coding. Come prepared to have fun, learn new skills, and empower your students to become future-ready through the exciting world of coding and robotics!
